Bonaire is shore diving heaven. Along the entire west coast you can park your car and enter the sea almost instantly to admire beautiful reefs and its many interesting creatures. You do not have to book a boat and you are not dependent on groups.
The waters surrounding the island, and the smaller island called Klein Bonaire, are protected and part of Bonaire National Marine Park (BNMP). People who intend to dive in BNMP are required to pay a one-time contribution of 45 dollars, which is valid for one calendar year and includes a marine park briefing and an introductory dive. The marine park rules are covered in the briefing.
